Fireside Interview #20 xat Luig

I hope you all will enjoy Luig’s interview! Tell us… what do you think about this interview?

Hello Luig, thank you for agreeing to be interviewed. Please, try to be as descriptive as possible when you answer these questions. Let’s start with some private questions.

What is your real name, where are you from, how old are you and what are you studying?

Ladies and gentlemen, hello. My name is Lucas (NO, IT ISN’T ‘LUIGI’ AND I’M NOT MARIO’S BROTHER) and I’m from Rio de Janeiro – Brazil. I’m 23 years old and for now I’m not studying. I work at an airport, so if you are thinking of visiting Rio, visit me!

What words would you choose if you had to define yourself?

Sincere and funny (too much sometimes).

When and how did you discover xat?

Well, I don’t remember the exact day/mounth, but it was around 2011. I used to visit a portal called ‘viciadosmu’ and they had a xat box. Looking at the users list, I was curious about how to get the star on the pawn. That’s when I discovered xat Ajuda (and never left there hahaha) I started to learn a lot and as I always liked to help people, I found the ideal place to stay.

What was your first impression?

I really liked it. I had just discovered Facebook and found that  “conversation box” very practical.

What is your global impression of xat now?

Unfortunately, I see it’s slowly dying. I’d really like to go back in time (Around 2012/2013). Many friends stop using and it saddens me.

What do you think about the current xat community?

There are many good people on xat. I like when something new satisfies the public, when people praise. The suggestion area is one of my favorites, there we can see how creative people are… But unfortunately they don’t receive so much attention from admins.

What do you think about “trust”? Who do you trust a lot on xat?

According to the poet Cupim, “Trust no one”. I always took this for all my life and in the xat wasn’t different. I really trust in a few people, not just on xat but everywhere. (NO NAMES, PLEASE).

What is the best year you spent on xat?

2013 I guess. I came in every day to talk to my friends. I had a lot of free time because I just studied. I’ve been online for 48 hours with some friends lul.

Have you ever met someone from xat in real life?

Yes. I met my ex in real life, we’ve been dating for almost three years. It was a great experience for me.

How long do you think you will stay on xat?

I really don’t know. As long as I feel good and I can help, I’ll be here.

Who is your role model on xat?

Cupim.

Where do you see the future of xat?

Well, I believe that xat has the potential to become a big social network, especially with the HTML5 version. But we know that this is not easy and needs a lot of dedication (from users, vols, staff and admins). I hope xat makes a new mobile app, the current one is not very well accepted by people.

Let’s drop it to funnier things and let me ask you the things you like or liked on xat.

What is your favourite power or smiley?

I like a lot of powers but Purple, Namecolor and Me are special to me. Oh, I also like Glasses because it was suggested by me.

What is your favourite chat?

Ajuda.

What is your best memory on xat? When was it?

I had a lot of good moments in xat. I remember that on my birthday at 2013, many people came in Ajuda only to wish me congratulations. I received too many gifts/kisses that day, I confess it was very special to me. Another special moment was when I was Main Owner in Ajuda for 1-2 weeks.

Is there a fun fact you would like to talk about?

Blackfriday 2015. I had high profits this year, it was fun because I was selected at all times and my friends kept saying I was very lucky (to tell you the truth, I read many bad words on that day lmao).

Now, let’s come back to serious things, especially on what you do and have done on xat

You were added to the team of wiki editors recently. Was it a goal for you to become a wiki editor? How did that happen?

Not really, I always liked to help with translations and fix some erros. I’d like to become a translator, but we always had active translators (which is something very good) for pt-br. So I devoted myself to learning about how the wiki works and I sent some edit requests.

What do you think of the xat wiki?

One of the most important tools xat has today. The wiki contains a lot of information, it’s very rich in content and provides a lot of knowledge. If you want to learn about xat this is the right place. You can find almost anything you need in it (and if you don’t find it, talk to me please. We’re always open to suggestions).

How would you describe the wiki team from inside?

It’s a very dedicated team, always keeping everything updated. The translators do a great job, I’d like to thank all of them. I can’t imagine how it would be possible to expand the wiki content to other languages without their help.

You are also part of the Contributors’ group. When did you become Contributor? Was it a goal for you to become a Contributor?

I became a contributor in November 2018. It wasn’t a goal, some people motivated me to enter due to my history at xat.

What are your opinions on the Contributors’ group?

I don’t have much to say, I’m glad to know that there are more people who believe that the xat can be ever better. There’re bad points, like everywhere, but I don’t think this is the right place to talk about.

You are also known for being a great designer. How and when did you start disigning?

Really? Thank you!!! I started making banners on Facebook around 2011/2012 (I’d show you some, but believe, they’re really HORRIBLE). I made banners for my friends, they always said to be good (they were always very motivational, because the banners were bad!!!) but I devoted myself to learning more and today I can do better things.

You are also part of Help as a moderator. Tell us about your experience as a part of the staff.

People always spoke very well about Help, so I always wanted to be a part of it. Well, I feel sad to see some xats like Help and Ajuda empty and without getting so much attention. The worst part is that there are people who come in to talk “Uhh, xat is dying / Uhh, end of xat ” and this is very annoying.

And what about Ajuda? Tell us about your experience as a part of the staff.

Well, xatAjuda is a very, very special for me. That’s where it all started, I made a lot of friends and had great moments. I’d really be a different person if I hadn’t met Ajuda, it’s really something I’ll take for my whole life.

We have come to the end of this interview. Do you have any special message to end this interview?

I’d like to thank you for the interview and also, for your dedication and effort to xat. To the community, all I have to say is: “Be the change that you wish to see in the world”.
